If Godred's accident was anywhere near as bad as LADAS's, there wasn't even THAT much left of him.

vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/t… Yeah, in that condition, you probably don't even entertain the possibility of repair.

And who cares if it actually happened or not? It sure shut Sir Handel and Duncan up, didn't it?

I honestly believe the part Culdee made up was the whole 'cannibalizing Godred for his parts' end, and he's in a museum.

According to The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways
'On a return journey Locomotive No.1, Godred, left the rails at Devil’s Back and fell down a ravine. Happily the passengers kept calm and no one was injured; but the engine, when recovered next day, was found to be beyond local repair. Rebuilding at this stage was financially out of the question, so Godred’s remains were put at the back of the Shed at Kirk Machan where, for the next few years, they provided a useful collection of spare parts for repairing the others.'

From Sodor: Reading Between the Lines
'Godred was the ill-fated engine wich had the misfortune to become derailed on opening day - perhaps by a stone lodged in the 'rack'. He was so badly damaged that he was scrapped and never replaced.'

The Rev. based that story on a real accident on the Snowden Mountain Railway. No. 1 was destroyed on their opening day. It was never rebuilt

i have no idea who godred is but this picture hits me right in the feels cause i used to watch thomas alot as a kid, i didn't like it too much but i didn't mind watching it. This piece dose beg the question, do they feel pain and do they die or just remain alive no matter what they become? it's kinda sad and i wish a sort of morbid series of thomas would be created where it tackled issues like this. It'd really put depth into what was a random kids show

Godred was the first engine on the Culdee Fell Railway named after the king Godred. This led him to be a pompous, arrogant and stubborn engine and went too fast up and down the mountains. One day, his actions got the better of him and he fell off the tracks and tumbled down the mountain. He couldn't be afforded to be fixed so whatever parts were left of him were used to fix the other engines(other mountain engines to be exact).

I want to see an "older aged" episode of Thomas and Friends where it actually shows an engine getting scrapped, and it shows the whole process of doing so.

I think that's a bit too far. But an episode where an engine was actually scrapped would be interesting.

Incredible job here, the rust marks, the scrapes, the dents, the smudges all over his face, are all executed beautifully.  I see you've gone with Culdee's story being true, I really don't know what other possible explanation there could be, besides them just leaving him down at the foot of the mountain. This is so much more emotional than that. I can see you really put thought into what he would look like without most of his pieces, particularly from the way you've created the boiler and front panel around the smokebox. His expression is heartbreaking, you can see so much regret and dread in it. The facial structure itself, with the eyelashes, the eyebrows, the nose, and everything else, is wonderful, it matches the RWS illustration very nicely but you've changed it to reflect his emotions, and it really fits. Well done, I love the concept as well as the way you've executed it!

His story is unclear and you can turn it whatever way you want, to the point that it never actually happened. To be slowly cannibalized in front of his brothers is the creepiest scenario of all possible, so I went with it.:P (Lick)

Damn...I know it was never stated that Godred was alive when he was being canabalized, but that seems to be the interpretation some people roll with. Not that it's a bad thing of course, this picture is awesome! I really love these original RWS inspired pieces...I have a couple ideas in the back of my mind I want to draw too when my schedule lets up :P

My interpretation of Culdee's words was that Godred didn't survive the fall. I have a mental image of the manager staring at a lifeless wreck and just saying "We have no money to mend you, to the back of the shed you'll go" solemnly, and you know the rest.

Well, from Culdee story I had the impression that Godred was still "alive" after the crash. Though "dead" wreck in the back of the shed as a silent reminder to the other engines is an interesting idea.Devilish

Seeing as there's no illustration, and Culdee doesn't reference Godred's reaction to the whole thing, it could go either way. SiF Productions actually did an audio drama of this story way back when and your picture got me thinking about it.

Oh man.... the image they wanted to put in the book but didn't.

Personally, I'm a person hoping he's left rusting somewhere. Not scrapped or cannibalized  to nothing.

Ah, so that must be how Godred looked when he started to be taken apart.  I was wondering what he'd look like for a while.  I actually drew a series of pics building up to Duke the Lost Engine some time ago, and Culdee's story about Godred was in one of them, with him telling Sir Handel and Duncan about Godred being taken apart for other engines, except I colored Godred in red livery due to it being his magazine livery (though personally, if it were left up to me, Godred would have been Royal Blue for his proposed TV livery, due to him being named after a king, and kings being royalty).

Wow, talk about the Dark Times of Sodor.  But I always got confused about this story: Culdee said that he'd made the story up, but the wiki says that this really happened to Godred.  So did Culde lie about making the story up?

I think Awdry written that so readers won't be scared at what happened to Godred, and that the incident actually happened to LARDIS, a locomotive on the Snowdon Mountain railway, which is what the mountain railway on Sodor is based on, did fall of a cliff and get damaged.
The coach, in that real event braked to a stop and the passengers survived. (although one was reported to be injured and died from them)

Holy expletive, the feels! Has anyone else noticed how he's staring down at his broken nameplate, thinking about who he once was. Also, the detail on the motion can really only be described as crazy complex!

Y'know, for kids!

But seriously, I love seeing the dark side of the Thomas world brought to artistic life, and this is an extremely vivid image of what I always thought of Godred being when I read the story as a child.
